Air transport, a study of its nature and possibilities, 2018
Transparencies, speakers, three-channel sound installation

An installation of long translucent trees. Each tree is a double layer creating the
visual sense of a forest. The images were taken in Siberia and California and were accompanied by three-channel audio.

As one walked through the installation to listen to the audio, the transparencies swayed and undulated from the body’s motion. The translucency created a simultaneous presence and non-presence. This ghostliness was a way to visualize how language and stories intersect and filter our experiences.

Measuring a Cylinder Spinning in Space, 2018
Transparencies, Etched Glass, Wood, Metal

Diagrams for a device my Grandfather invented etched onto glass along with  gradating transparencies of a family photograph from Akademgorodok (which translates to city of academics and was built as a Socialist utopia in the late 50’s). By destabilizing the image through transparency and layering, I aim to give  physical form to a memory that is constantly in being affected by the present and the past.
